Dr. Jodi L Abbott, Chair of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB) today announces the appointment of Karen Wichuk as Chief Executive Officer effective November 1, 2018.
“The Board welcomes Karen, who brings extensive collaborative experience, genuine enthusiasm and an authentic regional background to this pivotal role. She is well positioned to help us take advantage of our current momentum to advance the merits and benefits of successful regionalism in Edmonton Metro.”
A lawyer and veteran strategist focused on innovation and stakeholder relations, Wichuk has spent her career working in complex and multi-faceted environments. Until November Wichuk will conclude consulting work with public, not-for-profit and private clients. 
 “This is impactful work. I was taken with the synergy of the regional vision, the collaboration and leadership shown by the board members and the ambitious plans for the future,” said Wichuk. “I am excited to begin working with the Board and my team to build on EMRB’s successes, champion the next phase of implementation and to continue to advance the vision.”

 Interim CEO Neal Sarnecki will continue in the role until November. 
The EMRB is the regional growth board of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region, mandated to coordinate long-range growth and servicing planning for the Region. Board members are the Mayors of the Region’s 13 municipalities with populations of 5000 or more.
