First elected to City of Leduc Council in 2004 and served four terms as Councillor. Currently serving his second term as Mayor.

As a long-term resident, Mayor Young has lived in the City of Leduc for over 60 years. He worked as a teacher in the Region until retiring in 2016.

Mayor Young has always been community minded. In his role as a councillor, he was instrumental in hosting the Alberta Summer and Winter Games, and his vast experience volunteering in the community saw him recognized as the Leduc & District Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year (2000).

Through the EMRB’s Integrated Regional Transportation Master Plan, our 13 municipalities are able to seize opportunities to grow our Region in ways that no one municipality could undertake on its own.

Leadership within the EMRB

  • Member / Chair Metropolitan Region Servicing Plan (MRSP) Standing Committee  (April 2021 to December 2021 / January 2022 to present)

  • Member Shared Investment for Shared Benefits (SISB) (December 2018 to August 2021)

As Chair of the MRSP Standing Committee, Mayor Young realizes the projected savings of working together and champions taking a regional approach to complex municipal services, ones that are greater than each municipality can manage on their own.

Impact across the Region

Mayor Young is a former Chair of the Leduc Regional Housing Foundation, where he led efforts to provide quality and affordable housing and services to meet the needs of changing demographics, improving zoning and processes, and welcoming innovation.

Mayor Young’s priorities are bold and align with the work of the EMRB. He is a strong advocate for improved digital infrastructure — a necessity, enabling every sector of the economy and citizens to connect to the world.

He also played a significant role in advancing one of the Region’s key transportation infrastructure priorities, the QEII Highway and Leduc 65 Avenue interchange project. Once completed, the new interchange will enable more efficient and increased movement of goods, services and people through the largest cargo and logistics hub in the Region.

Mayor Young also advocates strong relationships through participation in Edmonton Global, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority, and the Collaborative Economic Development initiative.
