Our future will be made
in the Region.
OUR REGION
Our collaborative approach sets the stage for economic investment in our Region, for driving efficiencies in municipal services, sustainable agricultural development, and the ability to be connected both virtually and by creating a network to move goods, services and people within and beyond our borders.
☀︎
We’re rich in resources, both in the ground and on the ground. From our energy sector to cultural industries, our academic community, emerging health and technology ecosystems, and a vibrant agricultural industry, the Edmonton Metropolitan Region is redefining our role in Canada and the world.
But above all else, our greatest assets are people – the regional citizens who work every day to make this region one of the most vibrant, innovative, and attractive communities in Canada.
Our Region Stands Out.

The EMRB Regulation lists 13 ‘Participating Municipalities’. These municipalities are all in close proximity to one another around Edmonton’s urban centre and have a population of at least 5,000:
We’re a Region on the move.
By 2044, our regional population is expected to grow to over two million citizens.
Regionalism creates an opportunity to harmonize planning and investment to help communities grow smarter and more efficiently, in the right places, at the right time, at a cost that citizens can afford.
✺
Why Regionalism?
We already live regionally. When you commute to work or school, when you buy groceries or visit a farmer’s market, or enjoy a natural area or recreation facility in a neighbouring community, you are living regionally.
One of the most important values we offer is stability in the regional planning process. That kind of stability is especially important today, when so much of our policy and funding decisions are being impacted by a rapidly changing environment. And it is critical to investors, businesses, and citizens.
Regional challenges demand regional solutions. By offering solutions to reduce those barriers, and enhance long-term stability, we position the Region for sustained prosperity. We do that by offering a tangible vision of a future state.
EMRB is building a track record of harmonizing planning and investment, building economies of scale, reducing duplication, enhancing regional prosperity, and improving the overall quality of life.
We are also a testament to our members’ commitment to overcome regional differences, and to do the hard work required to create an attractive, united ecosystem for growth.
